Week 9 of We Heart This...
Hong Kong Airport
Designed by the architects Foster & Partners this building is liked not just for its looks but because it works! People do not think of buildings as products that should work, like a vacuum cleaner should clear up dirt - but buildings need to work too. Landing in and taking off from the Hong Kong international airport is such a painless experience due to its simple layout. There are no twisty corridors or flights of stairs to navigate through but just a simple set of stages that conveniently lead you to the exit or train station.

Brian Dettmer is an American contemporary artist. He is noted for his alteration of pre-existing media—such as old books, maps, record albums, and cassette tapes—to create new, transformed works of visual fine art. Appropriating media and transforming the physical form by selectively removing elements, he creates stunning works of art. Of his work, Dettmer says "Old books, records, tapes, maps, and other media frequently fall into a realm that too much of today’s art occupies. Their intended role has decreased or deceased and they often exist simply as symbols of the ideas they represent rather than true conveyers of content. ... When an object's intended function is fleeting, the necessity for a new approach to its form and content arises.”

The BMW Oracle is an amazing trimaran sailing boat. It is the size of two basketball courts and is able to travel three times the speed of the wind that is moving it.
